Back to School!

Hello everyone,

I know it's been a really, really long time. For which I am truly apologetic. I need to get better at posting on this blog. But, it's September, and the school year has already begun. I'm in my second year (!!) of law school. Where is the time going?

But, with school comes a new set of stressors. Here is some advice for dealing with back to school.

- Set a to-do list of things you want to do each day. Three things that are priorities, and then a few things that are not. Those three things are tasks that must absolutely be completed each day. For example, my to-do list for today is:

  • Finish my Wills, Trusts, & Estates reading by class this afternoon (PRIORITY)
  • Meet with my Negotiation partner to give feedback over our negotiation yesterday. (PRIORITY)
  • Start on Monday's Homework (PRIORITY)
  • Print out more of my summer research for the professor I worked for, provided the printer doesn't jam up again
  • Reservations for dinner?
  • Start reading book for my journal article.
I've put the three most important tasks at the top, so I can remember to do them. I usually put my to-do list on a mini whiteboard that I keep on my desk,

- Put aside some "me-time." Yes school is incredibly stressful and time-consuming. That makes it even more important to set aside some time that isn't devoted to school work. Whether that's setting aside time for exercise (which I absolutely encourage), or some time for reading books that aren't required for school, or drawing, or sewing, or drinking tea, or what have you, find time. Anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. You'd be surprised at how much it helps to have some fun in your life that isn't school related. 

- Keep an organized desk. It can be military-organized (super organized) or organized chaos. Whatever works for you. It's important to develop a system that you know and won't stress you out when you're looking at your desk.

- Don't do homework/study while you eat. Just don't. It's distracting, has the potential to make a mess, and can take away from the enjoyment of the food. If you do homework while you eat, you're focusing on the work, meaning that you'll associate the two actions. Now, I'm no psychologist, but I find that if I eat when I do homework, I associate doing homework with eating food. No bueno. Try to keep your tasks separate. Same goes with doing homework on your bed. Try to avoid it, because you'll subconsciously start associating your homework with sleep or your bed with homework, thus preventing you from sleeping well.

Well, that's all I've got. 

I'll try to post this weekend (Monday at the latest) about what's been going on in my life. I have some pictures and DIYs to share, and stories to tell!

What am I drinking? Kenyan "lifeboat" tea. This is my equivalent to a morning cup of coffee.
What am I reading? Textbooks, mostly. I currently have a text I borrowed from my shifu (that's another story to tell), that's required reading for moving up into the higher levels. I also have a huge stack of books that I'm planning on getting to.
Any projects? Yes, actually. Several.  I am currently working on making a 1950s-style wrap dress. I'm really looking forward to seeing (And sharing!) the finished product.
